I had a very happy childhood & along with my two younger brothers, James & Sean attended St Joseph's Infant & Junior schools. 1974 saw me making the move to senior school at Cardinal Newman RC High. This I have to say wasn't a bad school then although in it's infancy as the only Catholic High school for miles around. I played every sport available to me, to a decent standard which meant staying after school most evenings. The weekends were taken up with football & music. I started Irish music lessons under the guidance of legendary traditional musician Brendan Mulkere at the Harp Club in Luton I think around 1969. (If memory serves me right it was one of the first Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann branches outside of Ireland ! (feel free to correct me). This is where i got into my first group ! Thankfully I can't locate a photo at present but we were called the Mini Minstrels I think ? It contained some extremely talented musicians most notably accordion maestro John Whelan. Around this time I started singing at Fleadh Cheoils. Traditional singing in English..........under 11 years was the age group & up to the age of 11 I did very well.
